Brunch with GEIST
Nashville is full of amazing restaurants, especially in one of my favorite neighborhoods-Germantown! We’ve lived in this part of town for 10 years and we love it so much. All the way from the charm, to the convenience , to of course all the delicious food it has to offer. So when Geist opened, we knew we had to see what it was all about!
They of course offer a tasty dinner menu, but also have a brunch that everyone was raving about. So we brunched it up and we were NOT disappointed! Seriously one of the best brunches we have ever had. All the way from the atmosphere to the service, it was one hit after another. OH, and the food was the icing on the cake. We actually did have a cinnamon coffee cake on our pastry plate, and I think there was icing on it:)
I am in love with the entire vibe there. They did such a great job keeping so much history. They even have a “champagne garden” which is so cute and dreamy. The bar is also pretty amazing and the drinks also live up to the decor. Anytime there are flowers in my drinks, I’m a puddle of happiness.
We Started with the Pastry Plate and they kindly brought us each a glass of champagne to celebrate! I had my film crew with me b/c we are also featuring GEIST on our upcoming Germantown Guide episode in a few weeks on my youtube channel! Stay tuned for that!
They then brought us the Gin cured Salmon with a bagel and capers. WOW. They also brought us the Charred Beets with goat cheese and crispy chicken schmaltz. (i believe that’s crispy chicken skin.) This was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted in my life. I need to learn how to duplicate this at home. (but let’s be real, that’s not happening.)
I had the Pink 75, and My hub had the Dublin Iced Coffee. Both delicious, and beautiful. I love the craft and thought they put in to everything. Details matter! And no brunch is complete with out trying the Burger. So my camera men ordered it and said it was one of the best burgers they’ve had yet. Which says a lot because they eat a lot of burgers!
Here is a little bit of really cool info about the history of GEIST!
Set in a ca. 1900 blacksmith shop in Nashville’s historic Germantown neighborhood, Geist is a charming bar and restaurant opened in early 2018. Sophisticated yet unfussy, an evening at Geist is akin to dinner at a fond friend’s home; a welcoming and familiar experience with a timeless approach to internationally-influenced cuisine and classic cocktails highlighting the best ingredients found regionally.
Originally opened in 1886 by German immigrant John Geist Sr. and operated out of a modest brick shop until 2006, the John Geist and Sons Blacksmith Shop was the city’s oldest business in continuous family ownership and operation. The building was restructured with the current brick in 1900 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
Beginning in 2015, the modest brick shop that once saw three generations of Geists shod horses, sculpt ornamental ironwork and repair lawnmowers underwent a meticulous restoration to preserve much of the building’s original architecture and revitalize the Nashville landmark. The property is celebrating its second life after re-opening as Geist, a popular neighborhood bar and restaurant, in March 2018.
The property is a stunning renovation of one of the city’s oldest buildings and features a chic bar and dining room furnished with handcrafted pieces commissioned from local artisans, as well as The Champagne Garden, a full garden and courtyard with an outdoor cooking stove.
