Southern Apothecary-Meet Ashley
Have you ever met a new friend and just “clicked”? Had a lot in common, laughed at each other’s jokes? Like, the friendship was just easy from the get go? Well a little over a year ago I was outside taking my pup out at our dog park and started chatting to this pretty blonde chick. The next day we had an event and while I was setting up for it, I threw my back out. Boy that was fun! Well, I came to the event that night, while sitting in a chair the whole time, and again ran into that pretty blonde! Her and her hub were so sweet! We chatted for a bit and exchanged numbers, then they left. The next day she texted me to check on me, and then brought me a handmade body scrub! I’ll never forget that kindness she showed me. I didn’t have many close girlfriends, so it really meant a lot. Then I OF COURSE became majorly obsessed with her scrub because my skin has never felt so good.
We’ve been friends ever since, and now she’s turned that 8 year old hobby into a business and I couldn’t be more excited for her! So I’m so happy for you all to meet her , and you MUST buy her goods. They are amazing! Meet Ashley!
Tell us about yourself!
HI! I’m Ashley and I just moved back to Nashville last summer with my husband and our dog after living in Phoenix, AZ for the last 11 years. While living in AZ, I dealt with loads of allergy issues and a friend introduced me to essential oils. Over the years, I started dabbling with the oils as I grew more confident and comfortable with them and began replacing regular household and beauty care items with my own products. One of the first items that was a hit with family and friends was my Peppermint Eucalyptus Body Scrub. Fast forward to today where I’m living in Nashville and with the push of family and friends, decided to make Southern Apothecary a reality. My husband has been a huge resource with launching this company with his knowledge of marketing and creating websites. Southern Apothecary has been a labor of love for both of us and I look forward to sharing this first product line with all of you!
What’s your favorite song right now?
Hmmm…that’s a tough one! My playlist is all over the place! When I’m at the gym, anything upbeat. If I’m in my car, all things country are good for me (so cliche, but after living in AZ for 11 years and desperately wanting to move back, I fully appreciate turning on the radio and listening to all things country) and when I’m in my kitchen cooking with my husband we listen to Frank Sinatra or Coleman Hawkins.
What’s your favorite style to wear?
Anything black, gray or denim! I travel often so purchasing items that are in that color scheme make it easy for me to quickly dress for a work trip, the gym or a vacation. (It also requires needing to travel with so many different pairs of shoes!)
What’s your guilty pleasure snackgoto?
I could eat cucumbers (Nasvhille Farmer’s Market has some of the best cucumbers) and Trader Joes plain hummus ALL DAY!
What’s your MUSTHAVE beauty item that you can’t live with out?
Mascara. With blue eyes and light lashes/eyebrows, I look ghostly without something on my lashes!
Who’s the most influential person in your life and why?
Definitely my mom. She’s always taught me to put faith and family first, to work hard, to not let what others may say about me dictate who I am. She’s taught me to persevere despite all circumstances. She’s taught me how to appreciate the little and the big moments. She’s one of the hardest working people I know and loves others so well. I’ve watched her serve her family and her community since I was a child. She is a big part of the reason that I have a huge heart for missions and giving back. I can remember her taking my brother and I to pick out Samaritan’s Purse gifts for children living in poverty around the world when we were kids. We would pick out little items that could fit in shoe boxes and then our church would ship them off to children around the world. Her passion for teaching my brother and I about serving and being selfless has shaped who we are today.
What’s the one thing you want to accomplish that you haven’t yet?
I’ve always wanted to run an organizational company. I feel like my life is much more productive when it’s organized and I love sharing my tips and tricks with family and friends. Maybe one day when I’m retired…ha!
What’s your favorite thing in your closet?
My Paige denim. Truly some of the only denim I’ve ever worn that fits like a glove and washes like a dream.
What’s your fave inspirational quote?
Not a quote, but my favorite verse has always been, 1 Peter 5:7 “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you”. We moved a lot when I was growing up and I was often the new kid at school. This was a great verse as a child to remember that God will take care of me and to this day it gets me through the toughest of circumstances.
