Pasta in the mountains, the only way to do it!

Last weekend we took a 48 hour trip to Gatlinburg. It was last minute, and super fun. Some friends of ours just bought a cabin and offered it to us for a few days! I will be sharing our 48 hours of fun over a few posts…But naturally I wanted to start with food!!!  Continue reading

Changing the world one nail polish at a time, meet Malina!

I love how we all have dreams and passions, and that they are each unique in their own way. I am super inspired by people who really just go after their dreams. This is Malina. She is one of my neighbors and for the longest time I just had major hair envy! ( her hair is amazing) But then I learned she is the owner and founder of Press & Hume, a nail polish line made from non-toxic, organic ingredients! How amazing is that!? Continue reading

I recently held a DIY succulent bar workshop, and it was so much fun! Each person got to decorate their own terrarium, and then pick a few different succulents to go inside! We had all the fixings for decoration, and we all had such a blast! Check out the post from our fun succulent bar here. But every party can not happen with out some delicious food and drinks. So i thought what would could we have…..how about some adorable cactus themed cupcakes! So That’s what I did! Continue reading

About 4 years ago, we decided to walk to a restaurant a few blocks away from where we live. Everyone we knew was ranting and raving about how amazing the food was, but also mentioned you HAD to have a reservation to get in. So one night on a whim, we decided to walk there and see if we could get in… Continue reading

Do you ever live life trying to be someone your not? Trying to make people happy, and be the latest trend? If so, does this make you happy? Why do we have so much trouble just being ourselves? Who made up this rule that we have to be someone or something particular?  Continue reading

I choose…Tam Hodge!

Featured Posts LIFESTYLE

FullSizeRender-6-2I met Tam a few years ago, and instantly knew I loved this chick. She’s gorgeous inside and out for sure. I love her relationship with her hub and kids, it reminds me of me and Greg(minus the human children:) Her kids are amazing, which is such a testament of the kind of person her and her husband are. She’s a speaker, author, and all around boss babe. She just released her newest eBook yesterday and I’m so excited for her!

Born and raised in beautiful, sunny, Southern California, Tam never thought living somewhere other than near a beach was an option. As her teen years became more and more problematic she felt that leaving her surroundings would be the best decision. However, all she did was change her geographical location, she failed to change her choices that were causing the problems in the first place. Several years of poor decisions and risky moments that trapped her, holding her back in fear, makes the tale of her journey so beautiful. All those years have fashioned her story and created a heart in her to tell other women that they, too, have the power to choose life to the fullest. Tam is the author of “And Now I Choose” and “Choosing To Change”. She currently lives in Franklin, TN with her husband Brent, of 24 years, and children Kassidi and Dakota, 22 & 19.

Let’s get to know her more….

What’s your fave song right now? Cake By The Ocean – SWAAY. Mostly for the music. It has got such a great groove. But my all time favorite song is Every Breath You Take by The Police!

what’s your favorite style to wear? Comfortable. I like flowy stuff. I’ve been called Bo-Ho. Not thrilled about the ‘ho’ part. I love me some comfy jeans and a loose, yet cute, shirt!

What’s your guilty pleasure snack-go-to?Aldi’s version of Cool Ranch Doritos. Seriously, the best. My family even agrees!

What’s your MUST-HAVE beauty item you can’t live with out? Just one?!! Dang, girl. I love my Tarte foundation. My 45 year old face is beginning to show the years. This foundation covers so well without me looking like I have on layers of makeup.

Who’s the most influential person in your life and why? My husband. No question. He is my perfect match. His strengths are my go-to’s. He pushes me and believes in me. I would not be where I am today without him – no way.
What’s the 1 thing you want to accomplish that you haven’t yet?
I want to retire on an island some day. Well, not really retire because I see myself always doing some type of ministry, but to know I have a paradise cabana to lay my head, and palm trees and salty air to greet me each morning… that would be a gift!
What’s your favorite thing in your closet?
Clean clothes. But seriously… A few months ago I found a pair of jeans at Urban Outfitters on the clearance rack. The tag said $15 and some change. Not bad, right? I get up to the register – FIVE BUCKS!! And they fit great and I feel like a rock star in them. And NOT because they were only $5.00.
What’s your fave inspirational quote?
I’m gonna have to explain this a bit. The quote may not inspire most people, but it helped me complete one of the hardest things I have ever done – write my book. My book is about my life. All the gritty, ugly, scary, embarrassing, regretful, unjust stuff. In it, I spoke truthfully about people I love. And that was very hard to do. But Anne Lamott wrote these following words that gave my heart permission to write honestly, while also respecting my loved ones…
“You own everything that happened to you. Tell your stories. If people wanted you to write warmly about them, they should have behaved better.”

Self-Esteem for Dummies

Processed with VSCOcam with a5 preset

We live in such weird times. Have you seen “instagram husband”? It’s really funny, but so true. We live in a time where we are seeking approval from people we don’t know, always trying to put up picture perfect images…. all for what? To have more self-esteem? Trust me, I’m guilty of this. But I’m working on having my own confidence, and not the kind I get from a book…. Continue reading
