Jenna, the woman behind the Yard.

aI have known this girl since the 9th grade. We were instantly friends, and it was a bit scary how much we were alike. She is actually the person who inspired me to start sewing. I was always so jealous of how crafty she was when we were in High school.  Continue reading

Meet Miss Hilary Barnett

0157I met Hilary about 6 years ago when we first moved to Nashville through some good mutual friends. We instantly clicked. We are a lot alike, maybe that’s why I like her haha! She’s not only beautiful and smart, but a wonderful mother to her adorable babes. Her and her hub are 2 of the most legit people I’ve ever met. I’m also pretty sure her 3 yr old is my soulmate, that sounds weird. Her 3 year old Evie, is such a smart little cookie, and has like every disney movie and song memorized. (my hero ) Not to mention she wears Cinderella dresses every day. Hilary has a blog, and is just a brilliant chick. I had fun interviewing her….. SO-without further due, meet Miss Hilary.

Hi! I’m Hilary!

I am originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, born and raised. I earned my B.A. in Music Business from Anderson University, and a M.A. in Practical Theology from Regent University in 2012. I married a dreamy piano man at age 21, and never looked back.  We have lived in Anderson, Indiana, Orlando, Florida, and now Nashville since 2005. We call Nashville home, and never ever want to leave- we only wish there was an ocean nearby.

In December 2011, we were blessed with a beautiful daughter named Evangeline Quinn. She has rocked our world in the most wonderful ways possible. We just welcomed another precious girl into our family, Tessa Rose, and we couldn’t be more happy to have a house full of two sweet little ladies! As a small business owner, my amazing team and I help organizations improve their online presence through Savvee.

My personal interests, and much of what you will probably read here, involve being a mom (and all that entails- pregnancy, birth and beyond), womanhood, entrepreneurship, business, creativity, spirituality and theology, natural wellness, simple living, good books, social action, and simple reflections on life. You will find a mix of practical tips, as well as deeper and more philosophical musings.

What’s your fave song right now?

It has to be “Cherry Wine” from Hozier. The lyrics are a little intense, but it’s just one I can’t seem to take off repeat these days. I am also listening to Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good”, but that’s just because it makes me happy and is fun to listen to with the windows down on a sunny day.

What’s your favorite style to wear?

I would say I am mostly classic with a little bohemian flair. I feel like I am just now, in my thirties, starting to truly figure out my personal style, and what I love. It has definitely changed over the years, but I am a no-fuss woman when it comes to clothes. It needs to fit well, be flattering, and something I can wear in lots of different ways. As a mom of two and business owner, I don’t have a ton of time to plan outfits, so my go-tos are brands I know I can trust and look good on me. I am also a huge fan of Stitch Fix. A busy mom’s best friend!

What’s your guilty pleasure snack go-to?

Right now, it’s Enjoy Life Chocolate Mega Chunks. I can grab a few on the go, and feel good knowing I am getting a quick sweet tooth fix without all the other yucky ingredients.

What’s your MUST-HAVE beauty item that you can not live without?

My Dr. Jart B.B. Cream. It has an SPF, and helps me cover up my sleepy eyes. It’s a great lightweight cover up that doesn’t leave my face feeling goopy.

Who’s the most influential person in your life?

Right now I would say it is my group of mama friends- I have some incredible women in my life who support me and keep my head on straight when things get crazy. Don’t know what I would do without those amazing ladies!

What’s the one thing that you want to accomplish that you haven’t yet?

I would love to publish a book someday. Sooner than later, but I am working and being patient. 🙂

What’s your favorite thing in your closet?

My Birkenstock Gizeh sandals- they go with mostly everything, they are comfortable, and perfect for Spring and Summer!

What’s your favorite inspirational quote?

Oh I have SO many. But this one has been resonating with me lately: “Courage… is when you know you’re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway, and see it through no matter what.” -Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird
