Have you ever had a pretzel that has a purpose of changing lives? Well that’s exactly what Theresa’s Twists is all about. And even better, they are all my family! I’m so excited to be featuring them and sharing their dream and mission with you! I normally feature someone different every Tuesday, and I thought “I have to tell all my friends about my family and the amazing work they are doing to change the lives of young adults with Aspergers. I met Anthony about 2 years ago when we moved into our apartment. We instantly clicked with him and his wife because well, they are just so gosh darn likable. Anthony would and will literally give you the shirt off his back if you need it. We both ended up getting a space at the place where I have my shop, so not only are we friends, but studio mates I guess you could say! He is kind of like the male version of me, which is probably why we get along so well!
We recently spent the weekend in the gorgeous mountains of Gatlinburg, and boy was it beautiful. We relaxed and really just enjoyed not having an agenda. That isn’t something we do much of these days. You know, nothing? Breakfast on the porch overlooking the hills and trees, the sound of crunching leaves, birds chirping, you get the picture. It was perfect. It was also the perfect spot to enjoy some Mimosas with our favorite cocktail company. Continue reading
Learn everything you can. Never Stop Learning. This is a good motto for us all to live by, and definitely one I’m working on more and more everyday. Continue reading
As a a lot of you know, I live in a part of Nashville called Germantown. Its an old neighborhood 1 mile from downtown, and it has a ton of history, and has definitely boomed the last 10 years. Well one of my favorite boutiques in all of Nashville happens to be right in this cool hood. I instantly clicked with the owner when I met her. Not only did I think she was gorgeous and had great style, but her boutique just felt warm and welcoming, and obviously super cute. Continue reading
I’m not complaining that flannels are in right now! They are so versatile, and comfy. They kinda make me feel like a lumberjack, which I’m ok with! Continue reading

Some of you know my hub and I are Event Planners(or as I like to call it “Experience Masters”) for the complex we live in, as well as events for my shop! Well A while back we teamed up with Christie Cookie here in Germantown, and that’s how I met Julia. I knew we were instantly going to be friends after we chatted about each others hair and nails. My kind of gal. (except I was jealous b/c hers was better:) I’ve gotten to know her a lot better and man, is she a gem of a woman! I love her spirit and attitude, and of course her cute southern accent. Oh, and I guess she has a special place in my heart because we are both PK’s. (who knows what that is????) Well, when I got to know her more and learned how amazing of not only a person, but a chef she was….I wanted you all to know her too! So meet Julia!
Tell us about yourself!
Hey there! My name is Julia Turner-McKinley. Currently, I am the Community Marketing Manager for cookie manufacturing company in Nashville. Being in a small company, my work is diversified which keeps it interesting. I love thinking outside the cookie jar by creating desserts with local chefs. Two creations this year that I am most proud of would be the Roasted Banana Pudding with Salted Caramel with Chef Carlos Davis. I might add It won “BEST DESSERT” at the Taste of Donelson! Also an amazing cheesecake with Momma Nik’s Cheesecake in Brentwood which is becoming a fast favorite within the city and Capitol Hill. Both in my humble opinion are a must try.
I am a Zumba enthusiast, and have lost 90 pounds as a result along with eating clean. Even though my day job requires desserts, there is a balance. I develop healthy recipes as well! I also work with others fighting fibromyalgia (like myself) to help manage their symptoms by what they put into their mouths. Bottom line—I love creating something that each person takes into their soul that I made with my own hands. My happy place is in the kitchen!!
What’s your fave song right now?
I still cannot get enough of “Calling Her Beautiful” from Stephen Salyers-it’s on repeat in my car during the day. It’s my jam.
What’s your favorite style to wear?
Summer simply for me is dresses and sandals or flip flops. Headed into cooler weather means black leggings (yes, I seriously buy them in bulk) and boots. I pair them with a T-shirt or layered with a more interesting shirt or sweater. I can’t say it enough, make sure ladies your shirt is long enough. No public crotch displays.
What’s your guilty pleasure snack-go-to?
Right now I’m obsessed with honey graham sticks from Back to Nature dipped in Nutella.
What’s your MUST-HAVE beauty item you can’t live with out?
Origins VitaZing energy-boosting Moisturizer. It’s a multitasker (just like me) only it hydrates, energizes and protects. Makes me look refreshed like I’ve slept eight hours even when I have not.
Who’s the most influential person in your life and why?
That would be my sister Kim, as she is the strongest woman I know. Widowed in 2001 with a toddler and a baby, she has beat the odds surviving two strokes. Her strong faith truly inspires me every day, as I am in awe of it.
What’s the 1 thing you want to accomplish that you haven’t yet?
Living my life more fearlessly as I continue to break out of the box I feel confined in.
What’s your favorite thing in your closet?
Hummmm probably my Coach Madison Patent leather Maggie Berry Hobo Bag. It was a gift from the hubs and it does not hurt that I have Tahari pumps that match it perfectly.
What’s your fave inspirational quote?
“Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.” -Julia Child
